eInvoicing is a secure, fast and streamlined way to send and receive invoices between businesses and/or government agencies. It is the digital exchange of invoice information between a buyer’s and a supplier’s financial systems, via the Pan-European Public Procurement Online (PEPPOL) network.

Peppol is currently supported across the European Union, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, the United States of America, Canada, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand.
In New Zealand, the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) operate as a Peppol Authority, overseeing the local implementation. MBIE further champions this solution across New Zealand through the introduction of recent mandates. Notably, as of 1 January 2027, government agencies are required to ensure that large suppliers (as defined under section 45 of the Financial Reporting Act 2013) send eInvoices.
